Dubai -Full-time, PermanentJob Description (Roles and Responsibilities) The British Embassy in Dubai - has a vacancy for a Translator and Assistant to the Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer (FCLO). The successful candidate will join a regional team working at the forefront of the fight against organised crime, tax fraud, and international money laundering. Reporting to the Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer (FCLO), the jobholder will provide the essential Arabic and English translation support functions enabling the FCLO and regional team to operate effectively. The jobholder will play a pivotal role in facilitating the flow of data from Arabic to English and English to Arabic between UK-based investigators and key partners within UAE and wider region’s law-enforcement community. They will manage incoming enquiries linked to criminal investigations and make formal requests for assistance from host agencies. This is a role that requires strong customer service experience working to support two Fiscal Crime Officers, one Illicit Finance Coordinator, and one Regional Manager. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and a practical approach to multi-tasking and problem solving, as well as the ability to quickly grasp complex legal issues. They will develop an understanding of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) strategic priorities on fiscal crime and how we are working to promote them within the GCC. They will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the needs of criminal investigators in the UK and the UAE and convey relevant information to them clearly and efficiently in support of their work. Duties and responsibilities:Support to the FCLO Translating of all official letters and presentations from Arabic to English and English to Arabic for two Fiscal Crime Officers, one Illicit Finance Coordinator, and one Regional Manager. Liaise with local authorities verbally and in writing using Arabic and English translations on all operational matters. Follow up on requests for information and maintain/ update databases. Management of local and GCC regional contact lists. Continue to maintain and develop new contacts within host agencies. Sharing and processing information within the region using best practice. Provide advice and act as a pathway between host law enforcement and FCLOs in the region. Attending operational and other meetings in support of the FCLO. Contributing to the achievement of both HMRC and British Embassy objectives.General administration Maintain office systems, computer administration responsibilities, records, and equipment. Preparation and ordering all business cards and office stationery. Regular update of database of Arabic and local government contacts for official functions, including the Queen’s Birthday Party invitations and other formal events at the request of the FCLO. Be fully flexible in response to the dynamics of the role. Will be required to cover duties and responsibilities of the Assistant to the FCLO while on annual leave.
