Dubai -As Facebook continues to grow and evolve, it is imperative that it engages proactively with a broad range of stakeholders. Specifically, there is a clear need for expertise in Public Policy as government legislation, policy, and politics play an increasingly important and critical role. The position is responsible for policy issues at the intersection of technology, social media, human rights and emerging market entry/growth, aligned to the MENA region. Our ideal candidate is a public policy expert, who can combine a passion for seeing the potential of technology with the ability to create the opportunity to connect across the region, while having a deep understanding of the policy and human rights implications of our company, platforms and products. They will be a deeply strategic thinker with impeccable integrity who can inspire and empower a team to drive results, with an extensive knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics across the Middle East and North Africa. They will be committed to developing and empowering a highly skilled, dedicated team, ensuring an inclusive environment for the whole team to flourish, and with demonstrated expertise in being an internal and external business champion for equity and inclusion. Always on the front foot, our candidate will have the ability to see emerging regulatory trends, in order to quickly discern the impact taking place on Facebook’s platform (content) but also impact towards our platform (such as regulation). Operating very much in white space, they should work to counsel governments in creating a framework, within which new legislation/regulation can be built; dealing with the most crucial public policy challenges of our time, including privacy, transparency, the intersection of human rights and technology, safety and security, the impact of the internet on economic growth, and new opportunities for democratic engagement. This is important work… PUBLIC POLICY DIRECTOR, MENA RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor the region for policy issues at the intersection of technology, social media, human rights, emerging market entry/growth Represent Facebook in meetings with politicians and policy makers Lead a high-performing team who work with political bodies, policymakers and non-governmental organizations on technology policy issues Be an internal advisor for and champion of MENA for the company, partnering to identify opportunity Collaborate with country and region leads to build and execute strategic plans for MENA, identifying trends across the region and opportunities to scale approaches Communicate Facebook's position on key policy issues in public presentations to a wide range of audiences, both internally and externally Lead conversations with local public policy teams and devise proactive strategies for addressing key issue areas, building relationships with policy makers, civil society and academics Understand, identify and anticipate key policy challenges affecting Facebook in these markets and build proactive strategies to handle crisis management Show deep care for their team, helping and supporting everyone’s careers, removing blockers so that they may thrive, feel empowered and be valued Work closely with other functions within Facebook in MENA to ensure effective collaboration, driving key strategic outcomes for the region Lead on and ensure consistency in approach to Facebook's policy issues across the region Coordinate internal and external players across countries and time-zones, keeping all informed of progress and deadlines MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A deep understanding of political systems and relevant policy and civil society institutions in MENA Experience in policy engagement or development for a multi-national corporation or civil society institution The ability to connect the unconnected, and extensive experience with relevant policy issues, including internet governance, data privacy, human rights/free expression, taxation, net neutrality, child online protection, etc A truly inclusive leader, with experience of developing the careers of diverse teams Authenticity, integrity and humility will be key behaviors of our candidate Sound judgement, and strong communication and persuasive skills as well as a creative outlook, perspective and ability to lead in a dynamic environment Passionate about Facebook and its mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together A cross-functional team player with the ability to drive and manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously, collaborative Deep interest in technology and related policy issues PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS MBA, or law degree preferred Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
