Dubai -JOB DESCRIPTIONCaretakerThis post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali School contract.Purpose of the Job· To carry out, as part of the facilities team, a range of duties to ensure the safety, security, maintenance and cleanliness of the school compound as required by the Facilities/Health & Safety Manager.Working Hours· 54 hours per week, Saturday to Thursday. To be available to work on either a Fridays/Saturday each week· Overtime allowances for additional hours on school working days will be paid (approximately 4 hours per day).· 35 days paid leave (including weekends) in summer holidays.· Flexible to work out of hours as and when requiredRoles and ResponsibilitiesMaintenance of Building and Equipment· Regulation of agreed A/C temperature when building not in use in consultation with AMC contractor· Carry out routine inspection of facilities storage areas and ancillary equipment such as pumps, batteries, etc.· Replacement of light bulbs and tubes.· Switching on/off lights at the beginning and end of day.· Carry out minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment that are not beyond the scope of an unskilled handyman.· Notify the Facilities Manager of any repairs or maintenance work which is beyond the competency and responsibility of the caretaking staff.· Direct workmen and contractors to the site of repair and ensure the works they are carrying out are conducted in a safe and controlled manner. Obtain service reports and ensure any replacement parts are handed back to the school by the contractor.· Daily check of all blocks to ensure all roof top access points/balcony or high risk areas are locked at all times to prevent unauthorised entry· Cooperate with Security Management team and work practices advised.Outside Duties· Maintain cleanliness and general tidiness of all external hard areas; empty litter bins on a daily basis.· Ensure all drains are free flowing and clean. Cleaning blockages should they occur.· Inspect outside fabric of school, report/repair defects as appropriate.· Inspect all fences, gates, walls, steps, lights, etc. Report/repair defects as appropriate.· Inspect all sand pit areas, remove any stones, dangerous objects· Keep entrance to the school, inside and outside, clean and clear of obstructions at all times.· Inspect all outside areas for dangerous materials and remove· Carry out internal/external window cleaning where required.· Car Park duty at morning drop off, afternoon pick-ups and for any sporting fixtures. Ensure the safety of staff, students, parents and any visitors in this areaGeneral Duties· Prepare for school and after school activities, including PTA use, cleaning and (where applicable) cleaning up after these activities, within the normal working week. Cleaning of paint trays left in sinks by teachers.· Laying out and stacking of chairs, desks, tables, etc. Movement of same within the school.· Take delivery of stores, materials and other goods and store them (including cleaning materials where applicable). Movement of same within the school. Follow Goods In and Goods Out procedure and ensure all items are booked in and out of the school.· Organise all school laundry. Receiving/storing/distribution and return.· Replenishment of soap, toilet rolls and towels.· Keep cold water dispensers around the school topped up. Wash up cups.· Carry out procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.· Emergency cleaning in the absence of cleaning staff during normal session time (including the playtime break) e.g. spillage of paint, children being sick, etc.· Mop and clean toilets when required· Carry out the reasonable instructions of the Facilities Manager or Facilities Team Leader within the terms of the caretaker job description.· To manage, train and direct the staff from the Cleaning Contractor to ensure all areas are being cleaned adequately.· To manage the cleaning schedule of the cleaning subcontractors on site on a daily basis to ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained at all times· To set up any school/PTA events and set up any furniture.· All school building maintenance, including all internal and external areas (doors, fixtures, fittings, school gates, shading)· Waste management around the school· Check of all blocks to ensure all roof top access points/balcony, bridges or high risk areas are locked at all times to prevent unauthorised entry· Direct workmen and contractors to the site of repair and ensure the works they are carrying out are conducted in a safe and controlled manner. Do not permit unauthorised access. Obtain a service report for all visits which site team member must sign. Any old parts replaced to be obtained and kept for inspection by Facilities Manager not to be disposed of.· Clean out all sand pit areas, remove any sharp objects, toys and stones. Wash toys· Check all MEP in areas and report any faults· Ensure all water tests are completed by al hoty for drinking water and reports received. Any failures in report to be highlighted to Facilities/Health & Safety Manager and water affected isolated immediately· Sweep whole school before end of shift – including classrooms and offices and common areas secure all ipads, cameras, valuables.· Ensure all drains are free flowing and clean. Cleaning blockages should they occur.· Management of all school contracts at the school and service reports reviewed and filed· Any carpentry works, building/making of furniture· To support the Facilities/Health and Safety Manager with any other duties as requested.· Eye wash stations to be checked in Science labs and recorded· Watering of internal school plants all areas· Maintain good housekeeping in all store rooms, loading bay/storage areas· Support and set up for all school events Festive Fayre, Spring Fayre, Iftaar etcOffice/Administrative Duties· Deliver registers to the classrooms every afternoon and/or morning.· File children’s papers, as required.· Laminate, cut and bind school documents, as required.· Backing for hall board.· Clock: changing times for different programmes e.g. sports days/trips between Key Stages / Ramadan timings, etc.· Security of the safe key.· Stock control of stationary items.Health and Safety/Student Welfare· Advise when areas are dangerous for use· Notify staff of uncollected children· Prevent trespass on school property· Traffic management and pedestrian crossing· Monthly H&S AuditsTo whom responsible: Facilities Team Leader and Facilities/Health and Safety ManagerThis job description will be reviewed annually and may be subject to amendment or modification at any time after consultation with the post holder.
