Dubai -Associate (Mid-Level) – Commercial/TMT (Dubai -/Abu Dhabi) Due to the continued growth of our IP/TMT practice, we now have a vacancy for a qualified lawyer who has ideally covered a range of commercial and TMT matters in their current role. The focus will very much be on a mixed role dealing with a broad transactional and advisory workload. Job requirements The main responsibilities will be: carrying out research and drafting advice on commercial and TMT legal issues, including agency and distribution, e-commerce, telecoms and media regulation, content distribution, emerging technology regulation (e.g. cloud computing, AI, IOT and blockchain), data protection and cybersecurity; drafting various commercial and technology agreements, including NDAs, sale and supply of goods/services, distribution and franchising, consultancy, advertising, sponsorship, software development and licensing, hardware procurement and data processing; supporting the commercial/TMT team on larger-scale technology procurement, transformational IT and outsourcing projects; supporting M&A and corporate transactions and other wider projects with specialist commercial/TMT due diligence, research and ancillary contracts; assisting with the preparation and delivery of proposals, pitches, presentations and legal training materials; drafting, reviewing and negotiating stand-alone IP agreements including IP licences and franchise agreements; and drafting, reviewing and negotiating IP provisions within a wide range of other commercial agreements in the hospitality, education and projects and construction sectors. Candidate requirements The basic requirements for the position are as follows: a PQE level of 3 to 6 years' post qualification experience; a strong academic background, training and experience gained at a well-recognised firm with an established commercial/TMT practice; and 2:1 (or higher) degree classification (or equivalent). The ideal candidate will have: good drafting skills with a keen attention to detail, preferably with experience in negotiating commercial agreements; experience in carrying out detailed and methodical legal research across multiple jurisdictions using a range of available resources; experience of liaising with, and co-ordinating advice from, foreign correspondent counsel; confidence and initiative with a keenness to assume responsibility, work independently and take a pro-active and commercial approach to solving issues; strong inter-personal skills and a genuine interest in marketing and business development; and genuine interest in developing a career in the Middle East. The following attributes would be an additional advantage: experience in drafting pitches and proposal documents for legal work; and experience in the preparation of legal training material and/or delivery of seminars or lectures. Description of the team The four-partner IP/TMT group at Clyde & Co in the Middle East handles the specialist areas of intellectual property and technology/media/telecoms, as well as data protection general commercial matters. The team is primarily located in Dubai - and Abu Dhabi but supports all offices across the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region. Essentially, we are commercial lawyers with particular expertise in IP/technology issues advising on a full range of transactional and advisory mandates.
